Interviews & Portfolios

Interview Requirements

Selected applicants will be given a 50-minute virtual interview.

  • Once your online application is submitted, further instructions will be sent to you. 
  • Details about format and guidelines of submission of conservation treatments will be explained once you are invited for an interview.
  • Applicants will be asked to present on 5 conservation and/or related projects, representing a range of materials and disciplines. 
  • Applicants selected for an interview will need to submit documentation of conservation and related experience in advance of their interview. 

Your Portfolio

You will submit images of your studio art and craft works/projects*, which should include:

  • Images of 7-10 artworks and a cover sheet
  • Details on each project, including title, media, support, and year
  • Description of whether the artwork was created during a school course or independently
  • Description of skills you learned while creating such artwork and how you learned them
  • Experiments and research done in a conservation context may be included.
  • Long-term preventive conservation as a single conservation project may be included.
  • A website is not required.
  • If you have a website you want the committee to reviews, state this in your application.
  • Format may be: PDF, PowerPoint, and Google slides

A Note on Interviews and Portfolios

Other applicable experience: If you don’t have a lot of conservation experience, highlight other experiences that are applicable (art, art history, museum, printmaking, archeology, science, etc.).

*Works in progress: You may include works in progress, but you must explain why you are including them and why you are at the stage where you are. The committee is interested in the process, so don't be afraid to include an in-progress pieces.
