Celebrated the first full week in May since 1985, Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW) is a time set aside to honor the men and women who serve our nation as federal, state, county, and local government employees.
The American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) includes nonprofit employees in PSRW because of the importance of public-nonprofit partnerships in the design and delivery of public services. Throughout the nation and the world, public servants use this occasion to educate others about the work they do and why they have chosen public service careers, as well as the many ways government services make life better for all of us.
The Public Administration Division (PAD) views this PSRW celebration as an opportunity to enrich the role of faculty, enhance student learning, and engage the community. PAD will convene a half-day conference of scholars, students, and the community to examine national and local issues affecting the lives of Americans. This conference will create unique learning communities from which lessons for extending the college's reach is realized. It will also serve as a vehicle for advancing communities of learning as a vehicle for local government/nonprofit/university collaborations leading to transformative community changes.
