50th Anniversary Celebration

We are excited to share with alumni and friends our 2020 celebration plans. The department is working hard to make this year special to commemorate this important anniversary. Please check this page frequently for updates and more details.

This fall, we were looking forward to celebrating our 50th anniversary with all alumni, friends, donors, and supporters in Buffalo. Due to the Sars-Cov-2 pandemic and considering the health and safety of everyone involved, we have decided that it would be best to cancel the in-person events planned for September 2020. This means that there will be no in-person September graduation event for the Class of 2020 and no gala celebration party in Buffalo. However, we are excited to share with you that some events will be moving forward in a virtual format that will be safer and accessible to all alumni and friends. We will be sending updates via email with more details over the summer. If you don’t already receive our online Newsletter and updates, please email lavellma@buffalostate.edu to be added.

We only turn 50 once so we’d love you to join us for our celebration events during the 2020 year marking our 50 years educating conservation graduate students.

SEPTEMBER 2020

SEPTEMBER 11th
Class of 2020 Graduation
Join us as the Class of 2020 gives their final presentations and celebrates their graduation virtually. Please email artcon@buffalostate.edu to be added to our list to receive a link to the talks and detailed schedule.

ALUMNI ART VIRTUAL AUCTION
We are planning an online auction one week prior to the alumni symposium. Many alumni and faculty have already generously donated items to this auction and we are hoping to add more over the next few months. Our alumni board will be reaching out to seek more donations of art, conservation tools, books, and supplies for this event. Since many of us have been stuck at home for the past few months, now is a good time to clean your attic and closets where you may find something other alumni would love to bid on. Stay tuned for more information on this exciting event to raise funds for graduate student fellowships. If you are interested in donating artwork, books, or conservation tools/materials to the auction, please contact Aprille Nace (naceac@buffalostate.edu), our department librarian. The auction will run in mid-October with specific dates and more information on how to bid will be posted shortly.

ALUMNI SYMPOSIUM - October 23/24, 2020
The virtual Alumni Symposium is being planned to celebrate and applaud the past 50 years of the program at Cooperstown and Buffalo with an afternoon of talks and thoughts from former faculty, administrators, and alumni. We would also like to look forward and reflect on the future of the department and the field by asking: How can we be agents of change? How can we increase diversity? How can we be more inclusive, equitable, and accommodate an ever-changing landscape? And how should we continue to educate new generations of thoughtful and creative conservators? We hope to have a lively discussion encompassing all of these important questions.

2020 CONSERVATION EXHIBIT
There will be 50th Anniversary exhibits at the Buffalo History Museum, Buffalo & Erie County Public Library, and Burchfield Penney Arts Center to highlight conservation treatments the department has completed over the past 50 years. Dates and ticket information for each location to be posted shortly.
