The English Education Student Association is excited to welcome second-year teacher Alyssa Moretti to campus as part of its ongoing Alumni Speaker Series.
Moretti's talk, "Making the First Years Meaningful: Getting Started in Your Classroom," will focus on how education students can make the first few years of teaching impactful for their students.
The first few years of a new teacher’s career can be challenging. New teachers face a variety of challenges. How can new teachers work to create meaningful learning experiences that draw from the research and pedagogy they studied in their education programs? What lessons, units, and instructional strategies create authentic learning experiences for students? Moretti will discuss her experiences as an early-career teacher and share her student work from the past two years. She will focus on creating meaningful, engaging lessons and units for students that help them become better readers, writers, thinkers, and participants in the world.
About Alyssa Moretti
Alyssa Moretti earned her bachelor of science degree in English Education in 2015. As an undergraduate student, she worked as an English Education Officer, as a teaching fellow, and lead teacher of the Digital Writing Workshop at Buffalo State. During the spring of 2016, Alyssa worked as a teacher in the Pioneer Central Schools. Alyssa then served as the English Education graduate assistant during the 2015-2016 academic year, where she helped develop and implement a variety of English education community outreach programs, produced two award-winning promotional videos, and served as the English Education Student Association Graduate Student Officer.
Since 2016, Moretti has worked as a seventh and eighth grade ELA teacher at Western New York Maritime Charter School where she focuses on developing meaningful learning experiences for her students by incorporating multimodal composing opportunities, critical literacy methodologies, and art integration projects.
